Tottenham agree Dominic Solanke transfer as Daniel Levy ‘avoids paying £65m clause’

Tottenham are working to close a deal for Dominic Solanke after AFC Bournemouth agreed to sell their star striker to Spurs for a club-record fee, according to reports.

And it appears like Daniel Levy will avoid having to pay Solanke’s £65million release clause to hand Ange Postecoglou his priority signing in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham haven’t signed a senior striker since Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich last summer, with Son Heung-min covering centrally throughout the 2023/24 season.

But the Lilywhites look set to finally replace the club icon with one of the Premier League’s most dangerous goalscorers.

According to The Athletic, Solanke has agreed personal terms with the north Londoners and is said to be desperate to complete a switch.

Spurs’ negotiations with Bournemouth are now reportedly ongoing to finalise a transfer for the frontman who enjoyed the best Premier League campaign of his career last term, scoring 19 goals.

Solanke’s contract at the Vitality Stadium runs until 2029 and contains a £65m release clause that certain clubs can trigger.

However, other reports have claimed that Spurs have been working to reach a compromise to land the striker considered ideal for Postecoglou’s style of play. It appears they have indeed now agreed a fee lower than that clause.

“What’s important is the type of striker we get. You know we play a certain way,” the Australian boss said during Tottenham’s pre-season tour of Japan.

“We demand certain things from a physical perspective from the technical aspects of it that it’s going be a striker that fits that mould.

“It’s still the area of the park we’re really probably the thinnest when I talk about squad-wise at the moment, so obviously that’s a focus for us.”

Solanke could become Spurs’ fourth summer signing. Midfield duo Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall – from Leeds United and Djurgarden, respectively – have joined for a combined £38.5m.

South Korean winger Yang Min-hyuk, 18, will join from K League 1 side Gangwon FC in January.
