Self-Certification Forms– FG has passed an order that all reportable persons in all the financial institutions to fill and submit their Self-Certification Form.

This update on Self-certificate forms was made known to the public through the Federal Government social media account on Thursday.

It Reads, “This is to notify the general public that all account holders in Financial Institutions (Banks, Insurance Companies, etc) are required to obtain, complete and submit Self – Certification Forms to their respective Financial Institutions. Reportable Persons holding accounts in different financial institutions are required to complete & submit the form to each one of the institutions. The forms are required by the relevant financial institutions to carry out due diligence procedures in line with the Income Tax Regulations 2019.”

Statement coming from FIRS on its social media “We like to refer our esteemed taxpayers & general public to the FIRS Public Notice: ‘Completion of Self-Certification Forms By Reportable Persons.’ This exercise is required for due diligence in line with requirements of Income Tax (Common Reporting Standards) Regulations 2019.”

According to the tweet from Government of Nigeria twitter handle (NigeriaGov) “We apologize for the misleading tweets (now deleted) that went up yesterday, regarding the completion of self-certification forms by Reportable Persons. The message contained in the @ firsNigeria. Notice does not apply to everybody. FIRS will issue appropriate clarification shortly”

So the Self Certification form is for only reportable person

Categories of Self-Certification Form

• Form for Entity
• For Controlling Person (Individuals having controlling interest in a legal person, trustee, etc)
• Form for individual

How to collect, fill and submit Self-Certification Forms 2020/2021

To complete your self-Certification form, kindly go to your bank and obtain your self-certification form.

Fill the form with your right details and submit it to the bank for upload

Please note that this is a seamless process as the form is available for download on the FIRS website: http://firs.gov.ng.
