PSG withdraw from race to sign ambipedal Tottenham target compared to Eden Hazard

Spurs have been targeting young talent to add to their ranks all summer.

It’s not just the starlets they have added to their academy by beating their immediate rivals to their signature, it’s also the players they are adding to their senior setup.

Now, they have been handed a boost in their pursuit of another talented youngster.

As confirmed by L’Équipe, further reported by PSG Talk, PSG are unlikely to move for Rayan Cherki now that they have added Désiré Doué to their ranks, who himself had been linked to Spurs this summer.

The Lilywhites have also been monitoring the situation of Lyon’s two-footed star, who is in the final year of his €3.6m-per-year contract.

During his time at Lyon, Cherki has played 141 games, scoring 17 times and providing 25 assists. The young Frenchman has been compared to Cheslea legend Eden Hazard for his gameplay.

“Cherki is an exceptional dribbler, one of the first things one notices when watching him is that he appears to be ambipedal, as he can seemingly utilise both feet equally well. His strengths are as follows: key passes, dribbling and his ability to create something out of nothing. He could very well become a Premier League star like Eden Hazard, but I think it’s still too early for him to leave.”

Would be quite a coup if Spurs land Cherki

Cherki has been a highly-rated youngster ever since he debuted five years ago. He’s still only 20 and nicely fits both into the profile of players Spurs have been targeting and the kind of players Ange Postecoglou could use in his starting XI right away.

Back in June, PSG submitted a €15m bid with €3m in add-ons for Cherki. Nothing came of this, with Lyon reportedly asking north of £40 million as of last month. But, as time goes by, with the transfer window slamming shut, they are increasingly likely to listen to low-ball offers instead of losing him for free next year.
