(1)Job Title: Director, Agriculture & Climate Action

Location: Nigeria

Job Description

  • Reporting to the Executive Director, Pan African Programs, the role will be responsible for building the Agriculture and Climate Action unit  within Pan-African Programs, by  designing the strategic direction, recruiting a team and  overseeing a portfolio of multi-country programs that will accelerate the  Foundation’s commitment to enable dignified and fulfilling work for young women and men.
  • The successful candidate will be based in any of our listed offices in Africa (Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Senegal, Ghana and Nigeria).

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the consolidated Pan African Programs Strategy.
  • Design the Agriculture and Climate Action strategy and roadmap.
  • Identify the opportunities for the Foundation to establish strategic partnerships and deliver impact at scale at pan-African level to support the transformation of agriculture in Africa.
  • Work with the Foundation’s leaders and resources to articulate and draft the agricultural and climate action roadmap.
  • Lead the scoping, incubation, design, and delivery of all programs within Agriculture and Climate Action thematic area.
  • Provide oversight of the programme’s activity portfolio, including work plans, budgets, implementation, and ensuring that reporting requirements and impact targets are met.
  • Oversee agriculture and climate action programs delivery across the continent.
  • Ensure strategic cohesion, coordination of programming efforts, and knowledge sharing within the agriculture and climate action thematic area while also collaborating with the Foundation’s Advisors.
  • Manage risks related to agriculture and climate action thematic area and propose respective mitigation plan to the Executive Director for resolution.
  • Engage and maintain relationships with the relevant stakeholders including institutions of interest, peer funders and others that have relevance to the Foundation’s work in the field of Agriculture and Climate Action.
  • Convene thematic expertise and advance thought leadership externally and across the Foundation.
  • Cultivating relationships and facilitating engagements (e.g., roundtables, forums) with external thought leaders, experts and innovators to advance the Foundation’s agriculture and climate action thought leadership.
  • Serve as focal point for the Foundation in continental and global agriculture and climate platforms that can scale and accelerate the Foundation’s programs.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and agility that facilitates the ideation of new programs.
  • Promote collaboration and information sharing within Agriculture and Climate Action thematic area both inside and outside of the organization.
  • Identify and help support cutting-edge research on agriculture and climate action across the full value chain and across the continent in conjunction with the research team.
  • Interface with Foundation business partners across other functional areas to test/refine and deploy the most efficient operating model.
  • Build and Lead a team in embedding operational excellence in day-to-day prioritization of work within Agriculture and Climate Action thematic area.
  • Oversee team resourcing and delegation to align to business partner processes, performance management input for business partners.
  • Interface with Country Directors in the design and delivery of Programs that have overlapping themes.
  • Integrate the various programming across the Foundation linked to the Pan-African agriculture and climate action agenda.
  • Provide linkages in programming at the country-level.
  • Model and reinforce the Foundation’s values in behaviors and interactions across the teams.
  • Coach direct reports across the team to support their productivity in the consistent excellent delivery of program KPIs.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Agronomy, Agriculture, including Gender / Women’s / Youth Studies, Education related field from a recognized University; or another relevant professional qualification is required.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ relevant experience in a similar organization setting with 5 at senior management level.
  • Experience and knowledge of/with the landscape of local, national, regional, and pan-African organizations and networks as well as knowledge of the country-specific social, economic and political contexts.
  • Experience in agriculture and/or climate action at Pan African level.
  • Extensive experience of agriculture and/or climate action strategy and program design and implementation in Africa.
  • Experience in leading organizational policy development and delivery and ensuring its effectively delivery across a global organization.
  • Ability to be flexible within a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Experience working with organizations that elevate Gender initiatives within the agriculture and climate action space.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Strong coordination and project management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills; demonstrated attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Exposure to systems thinking with an ability to understand and engage with stakeholders in different ecosystems and design programming that addresses root causes and critical needs.

(2)Job Title: Director, Entrepreneurship Development

Location: Nigeria

Job Description

  • Reporting to the Executive Director, Pan African Programs, the role will be responsible for building the Entrepreneurship Development unit within Pan-African Programs, by designing the strategic direction, recruiting a team and overseeing a portfolio of multi-country programs that will accelerate the Foundation’s commitment to enable dignified and fulfilling work for young women and men.
  • The role holder is responsible for translating strategies into specific operations and is accountable for overall entrepreneurship development programs within the Foundation which include access to markets, access to finance, and access to capacity & ecosystem building.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Pan-African entrepreneurship development strategy and roadmap.
  • Providing strategic direction across the entire Pan-African portfolio and in relation to rest of the Foundation’s entrepreneurship programming, ensuring programming meets Foundation values and priorities.
  • Oversee Pan-African entrepreneurship programs delivery.
  • Ensure strategic cohesion, coordination of programming efforts, and knowledge sharing within the entrepreneurship thematic area while also collaborating with the Foundation’s Senior Advisors.
  • Manage risks related to the thematic area and propose respective mitigation plan for resolution.
  • Engage Pan-African entrepreneurship development stakeholders.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships with key partner institutions and peer funders, along with the relevant thematic advisors and directors, as well as Country Directors.
  • Facilitate sharing of expertise and lessons learned across theme teams both formally and informally, convening theme teams and expertise from rest of the organization as needed.
  • Cultivate relationships and facilitate engagements (e.g., roundtables, forums) with external thought leaders to advance the Foundation’s reputation as a thought-leader in this area.
  • Develop strong relationships with continental and global entrepreneurial communities that provide impact – oriented platforms for entrepreneurs in different sector portfolios to increase the participation and benefiting of African young entrepreneurs.
  • Serve as focal point for the Foundation in continental and global Entrepreneurship Development platforms that can scale and accelerate MCF’s programs.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and agility that facilitates the ideation of new programs.
  • Promote collaboration and information sharing within the thematic area both inside and outside of the organization.
  • Build a knowledge hub that can contribute to the continent’s knowledge on practical and fruitful entrepreneurship, which can be disseminated through various formats, e.g., website articles, videos, podcasts, seminars).
  • Build the Foundation’s presence at continental and global platforms designed for the advancement of entrepreneurship excellence including provision of support as judges, advisors, panelists during different entrepreneurship events across the continent.
  • Integrate the various programming across the Foundation linked to the Pan-African entrepreneurship development agenda.
  • Strengthen multi-faceted effort towards access to markets, capacity & ecosystem building, finance by outlining compelling and clear guidelines that will improve and enhance the interaction among teams driving these efforts.
  • Provide the linkages in programming at the country-level – mindful that this role is accountable to deliver programs that impact multiple countries and/or regions.
  • Interacting with counterparts from other program teams to ensure strategic cohesion; Keeping Executive Director apprised of entrepreneurship projects being incubated and sharing recommendations for new programs.
  • Model and reinforce the Foundation’s values in behaviors and interactions across the teams.
  • Coach direct reports across the team to support their productivity in the consistent excellent delivery of program KPIs.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree and Professional qualification in a relevant field is required.
  • Ten (10+) years of experience of significant senior level experience driving strategy and program success with organizations across multiple countries in Africa.
  • Eight (8+) years leadership and management experience of which at least four was gained in a multi-country environment in Africa, with a preference for private sector experience.
  • Experience building large-scale initiatives across geographies and expertise at least one of the Pan-African Programs thematic areas (i.e. agriculture and climate, entrepreneurship development, digital economy, gender and safeguarding).
  • Deep knowledge on the continent’s employment, job creation, innovation landscape.
  • Proven track record of working with and mentoring successful entrepreneurship endeavors.
  • Experience in public policy within nonprofit organizations, international NGO’s and/or learning institutions is also helpful.
  • Proven experience effectively engaging with senior government officials, key partners, media, business leaders and other influential individuals.
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Strong coordination and project management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills; demonstrated attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

(3)Job Title: Director, Customer Engagement and Performance

  • This role offers a dynamic and energetic individual to enable customer participation in the Mastercard global ecosystem through customer facing opportunities to enhance ecosystem performance, and enabling value add to participants.
  • The individual will be the primary interface with external Customers, industry stakeholders, and Country/Account Managers regarding all matters relating to Franchise Customer Engagement and Performance (CEP) within the Sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) region, with a focus on West and East Africa.
  • The role manages all aspects of Mastercard ecosystem management with special focus on participant performance optimization in the areas of fraud, approval rates, chargebacks and adherence to Mastercard Standards in Sub-Sahara Africa markets.
  • The individual will act as trusted advisor and go-to person for internal and external stakeholders on Core, Architecture & Standards, Dispute Resolution Management and Innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Create and communicate a regional performance optimization approach which addresses both customer and SSA region business imperatives in partnership with the region management team.
  • Establish and execute effective engagement models and business relationships between and among customers and key industry stakeholders throughout the region which facilitate Mastercard’s positive influence related to stakeholder performance.
  • Ensure the delivery of detailed customer community meetings, Advanced Fraud Management trainings and Franchise Management Program (FMP) operational reviews of customers, Payment Facilitators (PF) and service providers (SPs).
  • Identify, develop and deliver opportunities to develop advisory solutions to address customer problems and identify commercialization opportunities regionally and globally.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for Country/Account managers on customer performance management topics.
  • Support colleagues and customers with all performance matters such as FLD, QMAP, BRAM, Data Integrity and Payment Facilitators and provide insight.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience in payments industry of at least years 12 years with at least 7 years of experience in fraud/ operations/ risk/ product management.
  • Experience in Nigeria market preferred, particularly with a financial institution, consulting organisation or fintech.
  • Technical aptitude with experience in multiple systems areas/disciplines, preferably including bank cards operation and Mastercard payment systems.
  • Ability to work in a high paced and complex environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English with ability to communicate at both business and technical levels. Proven skills communicating with all levels of management, including strong effective presentation skills.
