The National Council on Climate Change has officially opened applications for the Climate Youth Negotiators Programme (CYNP) 2026 Cohort, a strategic initiative designed to strengthen Nigeria’s presence in global climate negotiations.
This programme aims to equip young government professionals with the policy knowledge and negotiation skills required to effectively represent Nigeria in international climate discussions under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
About the Programme
The CYNP 2026 is tailored for young professionals working within climate-related government institutions. It seeks to develop a new generation of skilled negotiators who can actively contribute to global climate diplomacy.
Participants will go through a structured learning process, gaining:
- Practical exposure to global climate negotiations
- In-depth understanding of international climate governance
- Hands-on training in negotiation strategies
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be Nigerian citizens aged 18–35 years
- Currently work in climate-related Ministries, Departments, or Agencies (MDAs)
- Demonstrate strong interest in climate policy and global negotiations
Programme Benefits
Successful candidates will receive:
- Mentorship from experienced climate policy experts
- Six months of intensive training on negotiation processes within the UNFCCC system
- Opportunity to participate in COP31, gaining firsthand experience in global climate discussions
- Exposure to international policy frameworks and diplomacy
