Applications are now open for the African Youth Expert Development for Climate Action (AYEDE) Fellowship 2026, a 12-week virtual programme designed to equip young Nigerians with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to drive climate action and sustainable development across Africa.
The fellowship is implemented by the Sustainable Participatory Development and Climate Resilience Initiative, a youth-led organisation committed to advancing climate governance, community resilience, and sustainable growth across the continent.
About the AYEDE Fellowship
The AYEDE Climate Action Fellowship brings together passionate young Nigerians interested in climate policy, innovation, and sustainability. Through structured training, expert mentorship, and collaborative projects, the programme aims to develop a new generation of climate leaders capable of tackling Africa’s environmental challenges.

Africa continues to face increasing climate-related challenges affecting agriculture, energy, water resources, and livelihoods. At the same time, the continent’s growing youth population presents a powerful opportunity to drive innovative and sustainable solutions.
The AYEDE Fellowship is designed to:

Interestingly, the name “AYEDE” comes from the Yoruba language, meaning “Life has come,” symbolising hope, sustainability, and a commitment to protecting lives through climate action.
Who Should Apply?
The fellowship is open to young Nigerians who meet the following criteria:
- Aged between 18 and 35 years
- Have at least one year of experience in climate or development-related activities (volunteering, research, academic work, or community projects)
- Demonstrate strong interest and commitment to climate action
- Available to dedicate approximately 5 hours per week
- Have reliable internet access
The programme strongly encourages applications from women (at least 50% representation) and individuals from underserved communities.
