Job Title: Tax and Compliance Officer

Job Description
- BURN is looking for a Tax and Compliance Officer in Kano, Nigeria who will play a vital role in ensuring that the organization operates within the bounds of the law while optimizing its tax position.
- This role requires a thorough understanding of tax regulations, strong financial acumen, and the ability to adapt to changing regulations and business needs.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Maintaining VAT, WH&WHT compliance systems and managing monthly filing processes.
- Prepare and maintain monthly reconciliations for VAT, WH VAT& WHT.
- Assist in lodging and follow up on VAT refunds with the revenue authorities.
- Ensure the companies’ internal processes are compliant with existing tax laws by monitoring tax development at local and national levels across West Africa.
- Maintain a monthly returns calendar.
- Preparing and filing all relevant statutory returns and notifications at the companies registry In the relevant countries.
- Research and update the company on new and emerging changes in applicable tax and statutory laws regulations and practices across West Africa.
- Follow up with Revenue Authorities for issuance of WHT certificates.
- Assist in compiling and presenting supporting documentation during Revenue Authority audits.
- Any other tasks as may be assigned by the company.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Taxation, or a related field (Master’s Degree or CPA certification may be preferred).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ethical and principled approach to tax and compliance matters.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in tax software and financial software applications.
