ASUU has officially suspended its one month, six days nationwide strike, saying that all academic activities in the nation should begin, lecturers and students are to go back to their normal academic activities.
Remember that Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, ASUU embarked on this indefinite strike on the 13th day of August, following federal government’s failure to implement their agreement reached with ASUU in November 2016.
The suspension of the strike was announced on Monday evening after a meeting with ASUU and government delegation.
ASUU and the Federal Government team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment Sen. Chris Ngige had a meeting with the Federal Government which started about 4.00pm in Monday and lasted for about four hours before agreement was reached to call off the strike.
Briefing news men and Journalist after the meeting which lasted for four hours ending at about 7.55pm on Monday, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen.Chris Ngige said all the issues have been sorted and settled and an agreement has been reached.

Areas of agreement reached at the meeting that was held on Monday include funding for revitalization of public universities and the issue of Earn Academic Allowances, the issue of University Staff Schools and the implementation of the judgment of the National Industrial Court, National Universities Pension Management Company and guidelines for pension matters for Professors
At the meeting, a memorandum of understanding with the federal government delegation was signed led by the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige. The Minister had earlier said both ASUU and FG produced “collective agreement of action” after the meeting.
On this note, the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, ASUU has directed all university lecturers to resume their respective duties from Tuesday, 19th September, 2017.
